Old acrylic domes and steel units are not worth patching, and the answer there is a new unit on a proper curb. A sound modern unit with a flashing problem can usually be reflashed. Either way you get one answer and one price before you spend anything.
Yes. Most of the leaks we assess are on skylights somebody else put in, usually a deck mount unit on a flat roof or a curb that was never built right. We do not need to have installed it to tell you what is wrong with it.
If the unit is sound and only the flashing failed, reflashing is the smaller job. If the unit is past roughly twenty years, fogged, cracked, or an acrylic dome, replacement is the honest answer. On most New York buildings a large share of any roof job is getting a crew and materials up there safely, so replacing a marginal unit usually costs less over five years than patching it twice. Replacement on a sound curb starts at $2,079 installed.

Recent work includes a six-unit VELUX ridge system for the Japanese Consulate on East 67th Street, complete with boom truck, permits and flagging. We put the lead time in writing, we submit the package as one submittal, and you get one named contact for the job.
We also replace the old galvanized steel pyramids and wire glass units still sitting on New York's schools, factories, lofts and stair bulkheads. Those frames rust from the inside out and the wire glass in them was never safety glass. We take the whole assembly out and set a thermally broken aluminum pyramid or ridge with tempered and laminated insulated glass on a rebuilt curb.
Our shop is on Gerritsen Avenue, so more of our skylights sit over Brooklyn rooms than anywhere else.
